Netflix LEO
Leo (2023) is Netflix’s first original animated feature film from Adam Sandler and Happy Madison Productions. This heartwarming comedy follows Leo, a 74-year-old lizard who has spent decades as a classroom pet in a Florida elementary school, alongside his best friend, Squirtle the turtle. When Leo learns he may not have much time left, he sets out to experience life beyond the classroom, leading to a series of funny and touching adventures.
World of LEO
For the premiere of Leo, we designed and recreated the entire world of the film. Since it was a premiere aimed at children, a variety of interactive activities awaited them upon arrival, allowing them to step straight into Leo’s colorful universe. After an hour of playing and exploring, the children were invited into the cinema auditorium, where Dutch wildlife expert and television personality Floris Göbel was ready to introduce the film.
As a special surprise, we brought Leo to life. We built a realistic aquarium containing a life-sized version of Leo that could move and talk. In reality, it was a hand puppet operated by a puppeteer hidden beneath the aquarium, while backstage the Dutch voice actor from the film watched along and provided Leo’s live voice and responses. When the curtain covering the aquarium was removed and Leo suddenly started moving and speaking, the children were amazed. The illusion was so convincing that many truly believed they were meeting the real Leo. It became one of the highlights of the event and a memorable start to the film screening.
